Joyce Lanier Palmer, of Shreveport, LA went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 17, 2018.  Visitation and funeral will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 5850 Buncombe Road, Shreveport, Louisiana.  Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Chad Hardbarger of Emmanuel Baptist Church officiating.  Burial/Interment will follow at the Veteran’s Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.  Boone Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.

Joyce was born August 16, 1937, in Ben Hurr, Texas to Alonzo Berry and Emma Lanier.  She graduated from University High School, Waco, Texas in 1956. She married the love of her life, Herman Palmer, on June 30, 1956.  Together they spent 21 years in the Air Force.  After retirement they moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where she worked part-time for the Caddo Parish Tax Department for 15 years and later worked part-time for the City of Shreveport Tax Department for over 5 years.  After retiring from work, they enjoyed many years of traveling to various places visiting friends and family along the way.  Their travels included playing golf, cards with friends and music in Mountain View, Arkansas.

She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church since 1974 where she taught 4th grade Sunday School for over 20 years.  Cooking was one of her specialties she enjoyed very much, including cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the church.  She was devoted to her family, who will miss her dearly, but can celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her Lord and Savior.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Berry and Emma Lanier, brothers John Lanier, A.B. Lanier, Alton Lanier, Billy Lanier, sisters Martha Nell Henderson and Cynthia Stubbs.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 62 years, Herman, son Dennis Palmer, daughter Denise Palmer (Gene Taylor), granddaughter Melissa Ahmed (Salman Ahmed), grandson Austin Palmer, great-grandchildren Natalie Mitchell, Colin Mitchell and Leo Ahmed, two sisters, Alice Watson and Lamarcel Choate and many nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends.
