James, age 77, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier City after a lengthily illness. James was born December 12, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, he served his country in the United States Air Force for 23 years. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for outstanding service to his country from the state of Louisiana. His other awards include the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal. James accomplished numerous endeavors once retired from the United States Air Force. He continued with his education achieving several degrees. He became a real estate broker, a master electrician, and in his spare time he tinkered with cars. James was a good man, husband, provider and father. Although he traveled the world, his heart was always with his family. Left to cherish beautiful memories of James is his loving wife, Lucille Barnette; his three sisters, Charlotte Hall, Carol Kuhen, and Cathy Rigolout; children, Jessie Herron and husband Keith, James Barnette, Jr. and wife Gail, John Barnette, Leane Sanderson and husband Eric; grandchildren, Kelby Sanderson and Cruz Barnette. I?m Free Don?t grieve for me, for now I?m free I?m following the path God has laid to see. I took His hand when I heard Him call I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way I found that peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss Oh yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life?s been full, I savored much Good friends, good times, and a loved one?s touch. Behaps my time seemed all too brief Don?t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee God wanted me now; He set me free. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. G. Henry for his many years of dedicated care. The family would also like to extend special thanks to Dr. Flenigan, Wanda Harris, RN, and the staff who were committed to his well-being, comfort, and Hersey fixes at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home.
