Obituary of Billie Richardson Rogers
Please share a memory of Billie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Billie Rogers went home to be with her Lord on February 23, 2014. Billie passed away peacefully at home when her Lord suddenly summoned. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, in the Faith Chapel at First Baptist Church of Bossier City. Officiating will be Rev. Billy Pierce, Pastor Emeritus of Cypress Baptist Church, and Dr. Brad Jurkovich, Pastor of First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, in the Faith Chapel.
Billie was born in Rhinehart, LA, on September 12, 1933, to Langston Eugene Richardson, Sr. and Jewell Doughty Richardson. She was raised with two loving brothers, Gene and Donnie. She attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston.
Billie moved to New Orleans to work as a legal secretary where she met the love of her life, Jimmy. They were married on June 13, 1954, and embarked on a life that would bless them with two devoted sons, Doug and Langston, two loving daughters-in-law, Susan and Stephanie, a precious granddaughter, Alison, and a host of dear friends and extended family. After her sons were born, Billie worked full-time as a loving wife and mother. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her close friends and family; and she had an infectious laugh that was unmistakably hers. Billie also had a deep Christian faith that she and her husband passed on to their sons.
Billie was preceded in death by her father and mother, Langston Eugene Richardson, Sr. and Jewell Doughty Richardson; and her younger brother, Donnie Joe Richardson, Sr. Left to cherish her sweet memory are her husband of 59 years, Dr. James William Rogers, of Bossier City; and her two sons, James Douglas Rogers, and wife, Susan, of Bossier City; and William Langston Rogers, wife, Stephanie, and their daughter, Alison, of Hattiesburg, MS.
Billie is also survived by her older brother, Langston Eugene Richardson, Jr. and wife, Murlene, of Williamsburg, VA; and her brother-in-law, Jerry Milton Rogers, and wife, Mary, of Niceville, FL; and many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Davis, Don Johnson, Mike Kling, Dr. Don Kozan, and her two sons, Doug and Langston.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to close friends and extended family who continue to graciously offer soothing words of comfort, endless prayers, and countless acts of kindness, as well as the Bossier City Fire EMS personnel who worked diligently and professionally to help Billie in her hour of need, and the ER team at Willis-Knighton in Bossier City for their tender care. Until one is in need, it is difficult to understand how precious life is, how wonderful close friends are, and how important and comforting personal faith in our Savior, Christ Jesus, is. We serve a good and merciful Lord.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, 7200 Desiard St, Monroe, LA 71203 or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.
