Obituary of Dorothy Mayfield Wilson

Dorothy Mayfield Wilson, 88, passed away peacefully at home into eternal life on October 12, 2020. She was born in Ore City, Texas, September 23, 1932, the daughter of Charlie Randolph French and Suella Langford French. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Mayfield, her sister, Charlene Shell Thompson, her son James Warren Mayfield, and her daughter Dorothy (Dottie) Mayfield Harter.

Those left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Sherman French, Dolly Jamar (Walter), Jerry French (Brenda), two daughters; Judy Mayfield Rowe and Sandra Mayfield Mann (Charles), one son, Charles Mayfield, Jr.; nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Dorothy graduated from Haughton High School in 1951 where she and her sister Dolly played on the basketball team. Her endless talents included China painting, porcelain dolls, oil painting, gardening, quilting and raising chickens for her grandchildren to visit. Her favorite pass time was sneaking off to the casino with her daughters. She looked forward to the yearly French family reunion where she enjoyed music by her brother, Jerry French and always a special waltz with her uncle Eugene Langford.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 19 at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Haughton, LA. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Dorothy may donate in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate to donate online.
