Obituary of Grover Franklin Britt

Please share a memory of Grover to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Grover was born on May 30, 1931 to Mr. & Mrs. Grover Hendricks Britt. Grover grew up in the era of the Great Depression. He lived in the Shreveport area his entire life with the exception of the 2 years he spent in the Marine Corps (1951-53). Grover went to Byrd High School in Shreveport, where he graduated in 1949. During his ten years, he worked some for his dad that owned Britt's Grocery in the Cedar Grove area. Soon after high school, Grover entered the Marine Corps. He was a jet air craft mechanic stationed in Hawaii, where his group opened a new Air Wing. After he left active duty in "53" he returned to Shreveport where he lived with his parents for a short time. I believe he married in 1955 and I was born in 1957, his only child. Grover decided not to work in the mechanic field after being in the Corps. Grover found out early in life, that he had a knack for sales. When I was just a small child, he worked for the American Loan Company of Shreveport. He worked for several other companies but really found his niche when he got in to the oil and gas industry. In the 60's through 1985 he found his greatest times of prosperity. In the 1970's Grover, along with his partner Robert Adley of Bossier City, owned a small exploration company named ABCO, located off the Benton Road in Bossier. Around 1985, Grover sold his part in ABCO to Mr. Adley. The last part of my dad's working life was spent working for Orkin Pest Control in the Shreve City area of Shreveport. My dad was married twice in his life. First to my mom, Betty Lou Crenshaw of Shreveport (from 1955-1975). His second wife, Shirley Morgan Britt (from 1977-1997). Grover also had a girlfriend Ann Rouse, that was with him from 1998 - 2016. Ann lived down the street from dad in Dixie Garden. In my dad's last 2 years of life, he really liked to eat at the Strawn's Eat Shop by Centenary College. Some of the workers there called him Cheeseburger because he ate so many of them. I use to joke about him being buried in a Hamburgalar outfit. The thing I remember the most about my dad is that he always wanted the best for me. He would always come to my basketball and baseball games when I played for First Baptist High School from 1972-1976. All this would be a sad story if it wasn't for the fact that when he was a young man, he believed in Jesus, was who he said he was, and repented of his sins. I will miss you dad, see you on the other side. Layton
