As these stories come to mind, I will share them. I received a card from my dear friend Laura who reminded me of a story I told her about Vance and how sweet he was. I was stunned that Laura remembered that story and repeated it perfectly. That’s when you know someone loves you. They listen to you and remember.
When I was 13 it was my job to mow the grass at our camp on Lake Bistineau. I used a belly bush hog tractor...at least that’s what my family called it. I wanted to drive so badly that I would have done anything...even mow 10 acres on a tractor in the August heat.
As I neared the lake house where I finished, Vance could hear the tractor and he would bring me a cold Coke. He was seven at the time. There was a place right behind the seat on the back of the tractor and he could stand there and ride with me the rest of the way. He was a sweet, sweet boy and his value of life was taken from him at 24 years of age due to mental illness. He lived and loved more in those 24 years than most...he just stayed in a body that wasn’t really him until he was 60. Rest peacefully sweet Vance. You’re with mom and Jerry and so many that have gone before. ❤️
