Obituary of Doris Pitts

Shreveport, LA ? Funeral services for Doris H. Pitts will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Boone Funeral Home-Shreveport Chapel, 3903 Meriwether Rd, Shreveport. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery West. Officiating will be Rev. Conrad Edwards of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at Boone Funeral Home-Shreveport Chapel between 5:00 and 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. Doris, 79, went peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father on May 27, 2011. She was born December 7, 1931 in Elkins, AR to Farrell and Maude Hanna. After high school, Doris attended the University of Arkansas and receiving a Bachelors in Education. She continued her education at Louisiana Northwestern State University in Natchitoches and received a Masters in Education and a plus 30 Certificate. Her long career in Education included teaching in Texas, Arkansas, and 22 years in Shreveport Catholic Schools and Caddo Parish Schools. Before her retirement in 1983 she served as Academic Dean of Draughon Business College. Preceding Doris in death are her parents Farrell and Maude Hanna. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 57 years, Robert Eugene Pitts; daughter, Brenda Basile and husband Barry; sons, Robert Stuart Pitts and wife Lynn, Farrell Pitts and wife Delia, and Kelvin Pitts and wife Sharon; six granddaughters, Aimee Basile, Bailey Basile, Katherine Pitts, Stephanie Pitts, Hannah Pitts, and Emily Pitts; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Pitts Lorett and Shirley Murray Pitts. The family requests that donations be made to the National Transplant Assistance Fund, 150 North Radnor Chester Road, Suite F-120, Radnor, PA 19087, and/or Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 3715 Youree Dr., 71105 in lieu of flowers. The family would like to express their appreciation to the nursing staff of Heritage Manor Stratmore for their loving care of Doris. Doris taught and loved many students over the years. Many lives were changed by her love and dedication to education.
