Obituary of Mazie Jean Ethridge Funderburk Eitel

Mazie “Macy” Jean Ethridge Funderburk Eitel was born on September 20, 1943 in Fouke, Arkansas. She entered the gates of Heaven on January 10, 2020 at her home in Benton, Louisiana after a year long battle with cancer.

Macy spent many years living in Texarkana, Texas. She graduated at 17 from Texas Senior High School in 1961 and was always in the National Honor Society. Her first job was at the Texarkana Gazette where she worked for 7 years making many good friends. In 1967 she went to work at Day and Zimmerman where she retired after 40 years leaving many friends along the way. Her favorite job was being a mother and grandmother. Macy was a kindhearted person that loved her family very much and would be do anything to help others. She was a selfless person. She was loved by many and always described as such a sweet lady.

Survived by her precious daughter Lisa Funderburk Nix and son in-law James “Jimmy” Nix of Benton, Louisiana. They were both with her every step of her battle with cancer and they were her heroes. Step daughter, Trina Randal of Jacksonville, Florida and sweet step son Ron Eitel of Texarkana, Texas. Her special and only nephew and wife Mr. & Mrs. Christopher Hancock of Magnolia, Texas.

Preceded in death by husband of 26 years, Howard Eitel, her only precious grandchild, grandson, James Walter Nix II, her mother Thelma Cooper and stepfather Edward S. Cooper of Texarkana, Texas, and her only sibling, sister, Betty Hancock.

Macy leaves behind special friends including Barbara Blue of Jacksonville, Florida, Carroll “Doog” and Betty McDougal, Margaret Story, Rufus Gulley, Mary Lacy, sister in-law, and longtime friend Jane Lorance.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City under the direction of Michael Howell, brother in law to Lisa and Jimmy Nix.

In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the American Cancer Society in Mazie’s memory.
