Obituary of JoAnn Thompson
Ms. Joann Thompson was born on January 16, 1949 in Plain Dealing, LA to Mr. Joe Dean Trammell and Ms. Hazel Lee Thompson, both deceased. A proud graduate of the 1967 class of Carrie Martin High School, Joann attended Grambling State University and LSU-S, and throughout her life maintained a healthy passion for education.
After leaving Plain Dealing, Joann spent time living and working in several cities throughout the South, eventually returning to the Shreveport/Bossier area, where she joined Greenwood Acres Full Gospel Baptist Church and worked with the 917th Fighter Group on BAFB until her retirement in June 2013. Afterwards, she kept herself busy by staying involved in various activities, including bowling and volunteering at the Strand. In time, she became a part of several close knit social groups and developed a love for walking. She also greatly enjoyed travelling and was known to “leave on a whim”.
Mom died suddenly on the morning of Thursday, November 7 while doing what brought her joy at one of her most favorite and peaceful places. She leaves behind one daughter, Mittye Jonelle Adams (Conway), and one beautiful granddaughter, Jasmine Isabel Adams – or as mom liked to call her, “Isabella”.
Joann also leaves behind over two dozen first cousins alone, an extended family that branches from the East to the West Coast and also touches the Canadian border, and a countless number of friends made throughout childhood, college, her career and retirement, who will all miss her smile, laughter, jokes, wisdom and overall presence very dearly.
There are not enough words that can express the gratitude towards everyone who has called and stopped by to offer their condolences and support to me and the family during this tough time. From myself, personally, an incredibly huge thank you.
Mittye
