Walter Eugene Brunty was born August 5, 1937 in Harrisburg, Illinois to Delbert and Beulah Brunty.  Sadly, Walter passed away on August 1, 2019 in Benton with his loving wife holding his hands.

Walter joined the Army at an early age. During his 20 year military career, he served in the Korean Conflict and two tours in Vietnam. He ended his distinguished career with the rank of Command Sergeant Major.  Away from the military, Walter loved to write poetry.  Many of his works were published in different newspapers. When possible, he enjoyed being at home and cooking for his family and friends. Crawfish was his specialty.  After retirement, he became active in his community and his church.

Proceeding Walter in death is his brother, Robert Brunty; sisters, Betty Moore, Ruth Hall and Cletis McGraw.  He is survived by his wife, Pamela June Brunty; daughter, Jeanette Brunley and husband Pete; step-daughter, Kimberly Throgmorton; grandsons, Gordon Bowman and wife Nicole, Jeremy Brumley, Hayden Brumbey, Dustin Wilson, Zachery Scherer, and Joshua Scherer; two great-grandchildren, Carson Brumley and Tatum Bowman; brother, James Brunty; and many friends.
