Obituary of Deborah Hershberger

Please share a memory of Deborah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

“Deb” was born in Pensacola, Florida. At the age of 10, Deb and her mother settled in Garland, Texas. After high school, Deb moved to Pensalcola to attend college. She returned after college to Texas to work for Dr. Shaddix, a dentist, who was an important mentor to Deb in her early adult life. Deb went on to live in a number of places over the years, and eventually settled back in the Shreveport/Bossier area.

Deborah Hershberger, of Keithville, La, left this world on April 30th, 2020 after a nine year battle with cancer. She will be remembered as a strong, beautiful and selfless warrior. Cancer could not keep her spirit down, even long after it had begun to take a toll on her body.

Deb loved to go, to shop, to visit friends, to share meals with family, to travel. . . Deb loved to live, and she did it excellently. She loved to do and to give to the ones that she loved. Even when she was at her worst, she made sure that everyone around her had her very best. Being a lover of holidays (any occasion, really), Deb shopped for family and friends year round. It could be December 26th, and you could bet that she had a present to wrap for a loved one. But these presents were never just ordinary gifts. They were heartfelt, and showed just how much she truly understood and loved.

Deborah always put her best face forward, figuratively and literally. She took the utmost pride in her appearance, even when it took everything in her to get up and get dressed. Her diligence was admirable.

Deb was a friend to many, and she loved being so, but her biggest  joy in life came from being a mother to her three children. She left this world as an outstanding example of her greatest and most important advice that she ever gave to them: to never give up. She aimed to instill in her children that when life gets hard, or someone says “no”, defeat is not an option. She pressed that they always push forward, keeping their heads up, and never backing down until they get what they truly want in life. Deb was undeniably a woman that led her children by example. She never accepted “no”. She didn’t let the pains of life defeat her. She was a warrior and she will always be someone to be proud of.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Greg Hershberger, her mother, Janet Lincks, her father R.E. Callaway and his wife, Ann. She is survived by her son, Christopher Tate and wife, Katherine, son Jeremy Tate and wife, Brittney, daughter Kimberly Christensen, her brothers, David Callaway, and wife, Cindy, Vincent Lincks, and wfie, Christine, Adam Lincks, and wife, Misty, Raymond Lincks,  sisters, Cathy Jordan, Debbie, Lowery, Brenda Stephens, and aunt, Betty Callaway Bradley. Deb leaves behind nine grandchildren, Madelyn, Maddison, Elizabeth, Kaiden, Macee, Christian, Jaxon, Abigail, Paisley,  multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.
