Obituary of George Lonzo Forrest
After a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure, George Forrest passed away June 11, 2019. He was born May 28, 1934 in Piggott, Arkansas. Soon after graduating high school, he joined the Air Force where he served 26 years. Before retiring as a Chief Master Sargent, he was elected Mayor of Benton and served for 15 years. While Mayor, he purchased and ran the Greenwood Flea Market, ‘The Way It Was’ Diner in Benton and various other businesses. In 1994 he moved back to his hometown of Piggott, Arkansas where he was involved in Antiques, Bed and Breakfast, Gas station, Ice Cream shop and a Toy Train shop. Due to poor health he moved back to Bossier City, Louisiana to be with his daughter, Sally. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Mary Forrest and his daughter Karen Forrest Castillo. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Lou Forrest, his four children, Steve and wife Ginny (Arizona), Richard and wife Brenda (Arkansas), John (South Carolina) and Sally and husband Scott (Bossier City, Louisiana), eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held later in Piggott, Arkansas.
