Virginia C. Murphy of Haughton, LA was born in Bombay, India on Aug 23, 1926 and passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Willis Knighton Pierrremont Hospital in Shreveport, LA.
Virginia, affectionately known as "Ginny," grew up in Portland, OR and Los Angeles, CA. She is survived by two children, CAPT John S. Murphy, USN/Retired and Cheryl A. Richards. One other daughter, Linda Dunham, passed away in 2008. Virginia was a military wife for 29 years married to Lt. Col. Stanley (Stan) J. Murphy, USAF, a command pilot with the Strategic Air Command whom she met on a train traveling from San Antonio to Los Angeles. They were stationed at Boling AFB, Wash. D.C., Laon AFB, France, Ramstein AFB, Germany, Griffiss AFB, NY, Barksdale AFB, LA and Fairchild AFB, WA before returning to the Shreveport/Bossier City area that they had grown to love during their years at Barksdale. Virginia was always active with the Officers Wives Club wherever they were stationed. Retired in 1972 and lived in Haughton, LA for the next thirty-nine years. Virginia loved working in her large back yard and spent countless hours with her flowers and never ending landscape improvements. She was also an accomplished artist specializing in floral and landscape oil paintings. A fabulous cook and was always whipping up something scrumptious in the kitchen. She spent the last 4 years of her life at the beautiful Oaks of Louisiana Retirement Community in the Savannah, an assisted-living facility. Virginia was a loving and devoted wife and mother. A friend to all and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held June 5, 2015 at 4:00pm in The Savannah at The Oaks of Louisiana Retirement Community.
