Lamar was born in Bossier City, LA on May 13, 1935 to Clarence A. Lewis and Glennie Gandy Lewis. He was the youngest of seven children, and anyone who knew him would tell you that being the "baby" afforded him many favors. He would often brag that he was his mother's favorite child. He attended Bossier High School and in January, 1956 he joined the United States Air Force and served his country until January, 1959. One of the things that he was the most proud of was that he was a Veteran of this United States of America. He was also an avid supporter of his LSU football team. He enjoyed many adventures in his life. For many years, he was a professional Trainer of Tennessee Walking Horses, both training and showing these beautiful animals and winning many awards and championships.
Later in life, Lamar was a route salesman with United Bumper, traveling to different cities selling bumpers and automobile parts. He loved this job as it gave him the opportunity to meet new people and visit with them. To know our Uncle Bubba was to love him. He had such a kind and sweet spirit and he was absolutely hilarious in his conversations and his stories. He always had a quick comeback with his keen wit and sense of humor. Mostly, he was a kind and gentle soul who never met a stranger. He loved his God first, his country, and he cherished his family. He will be greatly missed but we all know that we who also love his God, will see him again one day in Paradise.
Serving him as pallbearers are nephews; C.A. "Jackie" Lewis, III, Dennis Ross, great nephews; Jeffery and Tyler Ross and Cody Lewis; and best friend, Sammy Hunter. Serving as Honorary pallbearers are nephews Rick and Mark Faries.
Heartfelt thanks and appreciation to his doctors and friends of many years, Dr. Seborn Woods and Dr. Michael Woods and their staff. A special thanks to Dr. Jason Nelson who ministered to him in the last weeks of his life; for his kindnesses and gentleness to our loved one in such a caring and gracious manner. We would also like to thank his special friends, Sammy and Bonnie Hunter and Steve and Belinda Nicholson for the same kindness and caring. He loved you all like you were family.
Suggested memorial donations to Saint Jude's Hospital for Children, The American Cancer Society, or The Wounded Warrior Project. He would want us to encourage everyone he knew to seek his Lord and Saviour Jesus for a peace that passes all understanding. He would also encourage to Pay It Forward with a kind gesture or encouraging word to everyone you encounter.
