Benton, LA May 19, 2006 11:03 AM Hi, I was absolutely shocked when I saw the obit. in the paper this moing. I had so many memories of "Big Joe" being friends with Joedi in school. I felt this was my other family growing up in middle and high school. He was always willing to take us to the lake skiing and tubing whenever we wanted to go. He was a GREAT guy, and ALWAYS there to root us on playing basketball at Benton Jr. High and High School. I was so sorry and sad to hear this news of Big Joe. He was greatly loved by all that came in contact with him. My condolences go out to Mrs. Pam, Joedi, Pat and the grandchildren. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. --Michele (Courtney) Love

May 19, 2006 4:22 PM I'm really sorry to hear about Big Joe passing away. I haven't seen Big Joe since we graduated from high school. All the boys on Poinsettia Drive use to hang out in the woods by Big Joes house and doing things that we would probably beat our kids for doing. lol.. just being mischievious boys.. but I have a lot of great memories of hanging out with Big Joe and I know he will really be missed.

Gloster, La May 23, 2006 1:52 AM Pam, I was very sorry to hear about Joe. I wouldn't have known about it if Mama hadn't seen it in the paper and recognized the name. I'm glad she did. It's been years since I've seen ya'll, but at one time we were very good friends. My prayers are with ya'll and I wish you'd write or call sometime. I'd love to hear about your kids and Grandkids. Shreveport, Louisiana May 22, 2006 10:51 AM Big Joe and I go way back to St. Catherine days. I can't remember much except we played baseball together and I was bigger than most and he towered over everybody. I remember the time he hit a HR into the huge trees at AC Steere. I still think of Joe when I see those trees. We played against each other each summer when Jesuit went to Woodlawn to play in our annual first scrimmage after two a days and we always went toe to toe. Even though we were friends, we gave each other our best shots. We later caught up with each other when his daughter Pat and my daughter Amy played basketball against each other at Benton and Byrd, respectively. We talked to one another as proud fathers. I am saddened that Joe's life was taken so soon but we all know there are no guarantees in life. It sounds like he did live life to its fullest loving all of his family especially his grandchildren... that sounds like Big Joe.

Shreveport, LA. May 20, 2006 7:22 PM I saw Joe's Obit in the paper and I was saddened. Joe and I played football at Woodlawn H. S. in 1968 and 1969. In 1968 I was the middle guard on defense and Joe was a tackle. In 1969, I was moved to offensive guard and I had to block Joe everyday in practice. He weighed 295 and I weighed 175. You had to show Joe alot of respect. During that year, he broke 2 helmets on my head. I bled everyday in practice in my forehead from Joe's forearms. I saw Joe about 8 years ago and we just hugged each other and talked about the old days at Woodlawn. When you sweat and bled together, as we did, there is always a bond, an attachment. I will miss Joe as many other football players will. May God bless his family in this time of sadness.
