Houston, TX February 14, 2006 4:08 PM Dear Carey & friends of Mrs. Powell, I did not know your mother/friend, but I did know your sister, Mary. We graduated from BHS together in 1969. Looking at the picture of your mom is like seeing Mary again; she looked so much like her mother. Mary was kind and gentle and I assumed that that was the expectation from home. I always marveled at her long hair, something I was not allowed to have. Carey, I believe I taught you language arts and music when you were in the fifth grade. However, that only happened if there was a span of 12-14 years between you and Mary. We took time to remember Mary at our 35th class reunion two years ago. I know these memories are not of your mom/friend, but they are the memories that connect me to you. If you are the Carey from my classroom, I do remember a story or two or ten about how the homework was eaten by the dog, or fell into a puddle, or any number of things. You made me smile. I know that feeling was shared by your mom and those who knew her best. Bless you during this difficult time.

Shreveport, LA February 14, 2006 5:17 PM I graduated from high school with Mary Powell. I am so sorry for the Powell family's loss. Mary was very sweet and I'm sure she got that sweetness from her mother Iris.
