I have only known Dan a few years - the years I have been with Dan's Uncle Chuck. I found him to be a warm and friendly person who was loved and appreciated by his family. I loved going to his wedding with Val and how his family of parents, siblings and other family and friends helped to make it happen. I applaud the happiness he had with Val!
I am so glad Chuck and I were able to be in Shreveport to support Dan in his struggle for life and to be there for his wonderful family.
My thoughts, prayers and appreciation are with his family, Bud, Ruth, Doug, David, Deb and Deanna and their families during this time of grief. And with Val, a person of courage and love. And hope that she knows she will continue to be a part of this family always. Wendy

I knew Dan just a few years, the years I have been with his Uncle Chuck. But I found him to be such a likeable and friendly person and I applaud the happiness he had with his wife. I am so glad Chuck and I made the trip to Shreveport to be with him and his very loving family. He will be in my thoughts for a long time to come. And, we, like the rest of the family will consider Val to be family the rest of our lives.
Take care, Bud, Ruth, Doug, Dave, Deb and Deanna and your families. So very sorry this has been part of your lives! Wendy

Dan- I'm glad I knew you as we were growing up in the 'Kee. You were smart and funny-- "Little Big Words" is what Matt Hankens tabbed you. Fitting, at the time.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and you family. May you rest in peace.
Jim Martin, class of '86

Well, Dan,
From a skinny kid in a wrestling singlet to working with you as a Master Stagehand on the ISU Tech Crew, I've known you since you were 16 and watched you go through so much. I'm grateful for the old Monte Carlo we bought from you, that we lived across the alley from you for so long, and that you provided Dain with happy memories of hunting, fishing, and taking him on walks with your dog, Sam. Dain loved spending time with you.
I always felt you struggled with how deeply you felt things - you always had a big heart. You were a kind and smart person. I hope that where ever you are now, you are finally comfortable with that. Please be at peace.
Your S-I-L, Becky
For the Winterton Family - here's a section from Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet". It's helped me make sense of times that seemed 'insensible'.
Then a woman said, "Speak to us of Joy and Sorrow."
And he answered: "Your joy is your sorrow unmasked. And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears. And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain. Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven? And is not the lute that soothes your spirit the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight."
Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorrow," and others say, "Nay, sorrow is the greater."
But I say unto you, they are inseparable. Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.
