Haughton, LA Lt. Col. Stanley J. Murphy of Haughton, LA passed away on Sunday, March 13 at the NWLA War Veterans Home in Bossier City. He is survived by his spouse of 65 years, Virginia Murphy and two children, CAPT John Murphy, USN/Retired and Cheryl Richards. One other daughter, Linda Dunham, passed away in 2008. Lt. Col. Murphy was a 29 year veteran of the u.s. Air Force. He received his pilot wings at Randolph AFB, San Antonio, TX following Aviation Cadet training in 1943. Following flight training, Lt. Col. Murphy flew the B-24, B-25, B/A-26, B-57, T-33, B-66 and the KC-135. Since 1959, Lt.Col. Murphy served with the Strategic Air Command (SAC) at Griffiss AFB, Rome NY, Barksdale AFB, Bossier City, LA and Fairchild AFB, Spokane WA as a Command Pilot in the Combat Evaluation Group and Standardization Divisions. Lt. Col. Murphy is a highly decorated combat veteran of WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam. He received the Purple Heart from anti-aircraft fire during a low level bombing mission in Korea. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and friend to all and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
