Obituary of Beverly Ann Rachal
Please share a memory of Beverly to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Beverly Anne (Tucek) Rachal died at the age of 85 on the morning of May 18, 2021 in her home of 58 years surrounded by family and friends after battling Alzheimer’s Disease for many years.
Born on Friday, September 13, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan, she moved with her family to Bossier City, Louisiana when she was 13 years old. She attended Bossier High School and met the love of her life, Jack Reid Rachal, at age 16, with whom she eloped to Hope, Arkansas in a daring nighttime adventure aided by his brother. The two of them followed his work around the country as a telephone pole sprayer and instilling in them a love of travel. During this time, they started a family with the addition of three children before putting down roots back in Shreveport, where they built the home in which they lived for the rest of their lives. They did not stay stationary, however, as “Bev” completed her GED and began working as a bookkeeper while raising her family. Upon Jack’s retirement, they became world travelers across Europe, Australia and New Zealand, but they loved little more than to load up their RV and hit the road for months at a time exploring as much of North America as they could discover via the open road.
Beverly loved telling stories of their adventures with her children and grandchildren, often arguing the details with Jack and bringing laughs with her embellishments. She liked to rib her family to get a rise out of them while turning to another with a little wink to show it was all in good fun. She took the business of her household and responsibilities seriously, but rarely did it interfere with her ability to have a good time.
Beverly leaves behind her children Renee Rachal Culpepper, Steve Rachal (Diane), and Denise Rachal Britt (Miles); grandchildren Kelly Grantham, Misty Grantham Laburay, Sara Rachal Luquire, Lacey Rachal, Casey Culpepper, David Dinsmore, Tracy Culpepper Jordan, Vincent Walker, Halley Rachal Gibbs, Drew Dinsmore, Jon Eric Dinsmore, and Amber Rachal; 18 great-grandchildren; multiple nieces and nephews; “the gang” – who ate dinner together weekly for 45 years without fail – comprised of family and friends Paul Rachal (Margie), Joe Rachal, Glenn Rachal (Judy), Theda Rachal Dyar, Wayne Dillman (Carol), and Norman Mabry (Sylvia).
She follows in death her husband of 67 years Jack Rachal; mother Marguerite Tucek, two brothers Bill Tucek and Dennis Tucek, brother-in-law Tom Dyar, sister-in-law Peggy Rachal, and three nieces.
The family will host a memorial service at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Calvary Baptist Church Family Life Center located at 9333 Linwood Avenue in Shreveport. They ask that in lieu of flowers donations go to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
