Charles Warren “Skip” Powell of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away on July 3, 2021. After several months of declining health, Skip died peacefully with his children by his side. Skip was born in Kingston, New York on November 5, 1938. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the USAF and was assigned to Bossier Base where he served as a military policeman and served as security for the nuclear bombs on the then top secret base. He married Mary Ann Bollman in 1960 and they had two children -- Kathryn and Charlie. Skip served as a Shreveport Fireman from 1962 - 1966 and then used the GI Bill to go to college and earn his degree in Industrial Arts Education. He taught at Woodlawn High School from 1969 - 71 and Southwood High School from 1971 - 88. In 1988 he was promoted to Assistant Principal and served at Fair Park High School until his retirement in 1992. Skip is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Ann. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Powell Gallant and her husband, Bryan Gallant; his son, Charles Lee Powell and his wife Keila May Powell; his grandchildren: Jennifer Traweek, Robert Gallant, Chloe Powell, Charlie Powell, and Gavin Powell; his great grandchildren: Madison, Tyler, James and JD. He is also survived by his current wife, Peggy Hunter Powell, who brought love and laughter to the second part of his life. After a private burial, Skip’s life was celebrated at a wake held in his honor for family and friends. A special thank you to the staff at The Blake Memory Care Unit and Regional Hospice for taking such good care of Skip. Your expert and tender care made him feel comfortable and loved during the last few months of his life.
