Obituary of Cecil R. Strickland

Services for Cecil Ray Strickland, 81, will be held Monday, April 3, at 10:30 AM at Asbury United Methodist Church, 3200 Airline Drive, Bossier City, LA, under the direction of Rev. Ken Norton and assisted by Rev. Matt Rawls and Rev. Tim Barnes.
Cecil began his journey home Sunday morning after a sudden illness. Cecil was a lifelong resident of Bossier City. He was a 1954 graduate of Bossier High School. He served proudly in the Army National Guard for 10 years. He worked in the sporting goods industry for 55 years ,and was employed with Harbuck & Womack, Sports World and retired at Steadman's Sports Center. Cecil was a faithful member of Asbury UMC for many years where Cecil served as lead-usher. He was also a member of Contemporary and STARS Sunday School Classes. He was a long time member and former president of the Bossier Optimist Club "Friends of Youth " and initiated The Rising Stars of Bossier Parish High School Students, and worked on many community-involved committees. Cecil was a woodworker and enjoyed turning wood into masterpieces for family. He was kind, considerate and loved his family and his many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joan; one son, Andrew Strickland and wife Tracey of League City, TX; four stepsons, Donald Opperman and Carlene of Bossier City, Stephen and Cindy of Shreveport, Mark and Tanya of West Monroe, Michael and Holly of Pleasant Hill; 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grand children.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, or to charity of choice.
