I loved growing up and visiting Uncle Robert and Aunt Margie. Uncle Robert would take us to work with him at the high school and give us a class room then cook us lunch in the home economics room. Allen could walk on his hands and stand do a flip in the air and land back on his feet. We would dance to his band playing and have a most wonderful time. He was the life of the party. So many great memories and so much fun I had. As I was think of him this morning, he was a lot like his father, a wonderful man of whom I am happy to say I knew.

As a child I loved to visit Aunt Margie and Uncle Robert, it was like being at home. When you are one of six siblings and a total of eight persons come at once to visit is a bit much. But never for Uncle Robert, he would take us to the high school where he worked and give us a classroom to play in then cook us a lunch in the home economics room. He loved to cook and he and Aunt Margie were made for each other, like my mom and dad. And they were cousins too. Allen would work out in the gym and I loved watching him, he was so full of energy. He would walk on his hands or do a standing flip where he would jump in the air do a flip and land on his feet. Allen, Lawrence and Martha are like some of my cousins who were more like siblings, like my own brothers and sisters. As I was thinking the morning I heard he passed away, Allen was a lot like his father always happy and full of smiles and a wonderful person to be around and never a dull moment. He would play in his band and we would dance and have a most wonderful time. I love you Allen Earl Metts always.

Hard to believe my good friend Allen has gone to heaven so soon, but I just know he's up there playin guitar with Duane Allman and Louis Acorn keeping rhythm on the drums. As Allen would often say, Yeah Buddy!! Who didn't know that?!
The best memories I have with Allen were in Shreveport at his crawfish boils, with as I lovingly call them The Metts Clan. He was the patriarch of the family and anyone who knew him knows he loved God, his family and his country.
His talents as a builder went far beyond construction of buildings and houses. He was a builder of men. He had learned many valuable lessons in life and he tried his best to pass along his wisdom. I'm thankful for the times when we would talk as we played a round of golf or when he would be playing his acoustic guitar on the porch or a stump beside a campfire in the yard. Good times!
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. May God comfort you during this time of mourning of such a special man. Liz, thank you again for contacting me and for making my buddy's last few years so special. You meant the world to him and he meant the world to so many. He will be missed. God bless
