You are invited to celebrate Don’s life together with his family on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mangum United Methodist Church located at 3939 Pines Road, Shreveport, LA. As Big Daddy Don loved all things LSU, Dallas Cowboys and Nascar. Attendees are encouraged to celebrate his life by wearing their favorite team or game day attire to his memorial. Don was born in Union, Mississippi, and raised in Shreveport, LA; however, Greenwood was his home for over four decades with the love of his life, Nancy. His survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Bell Majure; daughter Amanda Masih and husband Fayyaz of Pickerington, Ohio; his son Daniel Majure and wife Emma of Senoia, Georgia. Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Betty Cliburn Majure of Shreveport; his sister, Diane Majure Hunt and husband Jimmy of Mobile, AL; brother-in-law, Warren Bell and wife Romae of Midland, TX; and Uncle Sonny Cliburn of Holly Bluff, MS. Don deeply loved each of his nieces, nephew and all his cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond W. Majure. Mr. Majure retired from the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Department (CPSO) with 38 years of public service. He spent most of these years on Patrol as a Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Specialist. He started CPSO’s first HAZMAT Unit in 1982 and remained an active member of this team until his retirement. He was also proud to have served his community as a CPSO Search & Rescue diver. Don was a true “First Responder”. He courageously walked towards many dangerous scenes, in spite of what his eyes saw, bringing wisdom, safety and solutions. He was a recipient of CPSO’s Medal of Valor. During his early years of law enforcement, Don also served as an active volunteer firefighter and certified EMT. His career took a sudden turn in 1984 when he was called to the scene of a significant HAZMAT case which forever marked him. Over the years, Don became a voice of experience for emergency response management in Caddo Parish and generously lent his wisdom to colleagues across the state in hopes of saving others from the tragedies he had endured. He went on to serve the Louisiana Emergency Preparedness Association (LEPA) for over 2 decades with many years in executive leadership. From an early age, Don had two loves: baseball and all things outdoors. He especially loved hunting ducks, deer, and turkeys. Growing up he was always playing baseball and then later football. He went on to attend Southern Arkansas University on a football scholarship. Don became a life-long learner and continually reinvented himself throughout his life. He loved to travel. Don was very proud to be an American. He loved God. He loved his family. He was generous. His gruff exterior often tended to hide his softer side with a huge heart. He was a “bigger than life” person. He had uncommon common sense and character. He had a strong sense of integrity: he was honest, loyal to his friends, and he always stood up for people who couldn’t stand up for themselves. You always knew exactly what he thought because he would tell you! He had a mind of his own. He was competitive and hardworking with a unique sense of humor. Don was brave. This became especially apparent this past decade as he fought numerous medical challenges, eventually becoming a heart transplant survivor. The family is eternally grateful to Don’s “donor” family which gave him the opportunity to spend 7 years with his family, past his heart failure. Every day was precious to him – he so loved life! The family also offers their heartfelt thanks, to “TEAM DON” for all the love, prayers and support they’ve provided over the years. Our extended family at the Baylor Center for Advanced Heart and Lung Diseases and our Baylor Heart Transplant teams in Dallas, TX, will always hold a special place in our hearts. The family extends their gratitude to the entire Shreveport Team including Willis Knighton Cardiology, led by Dr. Fred White, as well as Dr. K. Singh and his nursing staff, and Sami Smith, with Endocrine Specialist for their continual care and compassion for Don. We are grateful for the Willis Knighton North, 5th Floor COVID/ ICU doctors and medical staff. As Mr. Majure was a heart transplant recipient, the family requests you consider signing up to become an organ donor. You can find out more information at: Organdonor.gov/sign-up
