Loyd W. Covell, 89, of Minden, Louisiana went to his heavenly home on January 25, 2022 in Bossier City, Louisiana. He was born March 13, 1932 in Jacksonville, Arkansas to the late Rev. Lloyd E. and Velma Covell of Gravel Ridge, Arkansas. He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1949 and joined the Air Force in 1952. Loyd never met a stranger and was always helping his family and friends no matter what the reason. He loved spending time fishing, long walks, taking his grandchildren riding on his horse drawn cart or motorcycle. He was the best at telling stories of long ago and could keep you interested for hours. He was married to his wife Patricia for 36 years before her passing in 1990. Loyd spent 22 years in the United States Air Force. His first job was watch repair and then as a Metrologist before retiring at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, Louisiana. He is survived by his children, Tina Webb (Ray), Mack Covell, Sandy Stewart (James) and Sheilla Shirey (Tom) all living in Louisiana. Grandchildren Amanda Webb, T.J. Webb (Katie), Michael Webb, Casey Sarka (Alan), Justin Covell, Tyler Covell (Taylor), David Covell (Jennifer), James Curtis Stewart (Paige), Jackie Gravois (Shaun), Kirk McCann (Dorothy), Tara McCann, Lelia Purdy (Joey), Brandie Shirey, Melissa Shirey, Amanda Shirey and Jason Shirey. 14 great grandchildren. Siblings Rozell Williford, Pawnee Runions, Doris Sellers, Wayne Covell and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Loyd had his wife, parents, Brother Weldon Covell, Sister Estelle Carmical, several brothers-in-law, nephews and son-in-law to meet him at the Pearly Gates. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Woody’s Home for Veterans in Shreveport or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
