Obituary of Carole Ann McGinnis

Carole Ann Young McGinnis, age 86, of Shreveport, LA, passed away on February 3, 2022 at home in Blanchard, LA. Visitation will be held Tuesday February 8, 2022, at Boone Funeral Home, at 2156 Airline Drive, Bossier City, LA, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Funeral service will follow immediately after visitation with special friends Hugh T. Dodds and Barbara Burrow officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, at 7970 Mike Clark Road, Keithville, LA.
She was a lifelong resident of Shreveport and graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1952. She went on to earn a degree in Elementary Education from Louisiana Tech University in 1956. After graduation she returned to Shreveport where she met and married the love of her of life, Darrell Duane McGinnis of Belleville, Kansas, in 1957. They would remain together for 52 years until Darrell’s death in 2010.
They loved to travel and visit new places with family and friends. Together they owned Waschka Radiators for over 40 years.
Carole was a member of Mooringsport Baptist Church for almost a decade, but was active for many years at both Bible Baptist Church and Caddo Heights Baptist Church where she served in numerous capacities. Her love of Christ led her to serve in many positions that were a constant source of fulfillment and happiness for her.
Carole is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ann Young of Shreveport, Louisiana, her beloved husband Darrell, and her baby daughter Rebecca McGinnis Twitty of Keithville, Louisiana.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra McGinnis Helton and husband David of Blanchard Louisiana, four amazing and beloved grandchildren: Emily Gaskin Mann (and Ian McCarthy) of Shreveport, Louisiana, Sarah Ann Helton (and Jason Ainsworth) of Blanchard, Louisiana, Jacob Edward McGinnis Helton (and Lauren Cummings) of Shreveport, Louisina, Ashley Nicole “Nikki” Twitty Peace and husband Keith of Corpus Christi, Texas. Her great loves and source of joy and pride came from her three great-grandchildren, Devin James and Madelyn Kay Schwartzkopf and Cassie Marie Ainsworth. Also left to cherish her memory is her special son-in-law, Jamie Yawn. Carole truly believed in unconditional love and her family were privileged recipients.
Being from a small family, Carole collected a number of close friends who became cherished family members who will miss her greatly. Thank you for the love and support you have given her and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Labre Indian School or the Wounded Warrior Project.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Cody Tingle and his wonderful staff, and Cynthia Dixon from PrimeStar Home Health for her excellent care of their beloved matriarch over the last year. The family also the staff of St. Joseph Hospice, especially Nurse Emily, for all they did to make her last days comfortable.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Helton, Jason Ainsworth, Ian McCarthy, Jamie Yawn, Jack Reid, and Stoney Brewer. Honorary Pallbearers will be David L. Helton, Jr. and Devin J. Schwartzkopf.
