Please share a memory of Ronald A. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ronald (Ron) A. Webb Sr. of Shreveport, LA., prominent local leader, loving husband, and father peacefully passed away in his sleep Saturday, March 12, 2022, at the age of 74.
Ron was a native of Bossier City and attended the first class as a senior of Airline High school, class of 1965. He was the only son, as well as middle child of Johnnie and Dorothy Webb.
With a father as vice president of Bossier Bank and Trust, Ron learned early on the value of a hard earned nickel. Before he was 18 he had already started several of his own businesses, including selling coat hangers to cleaners, cutting yards, and riding 10 miles a day, 365 days a year delivering the morning Shreveport Times, and the evening Shreveport Journal.
After high school, he attended the University of Northwestern in Natchitoches, LA. Shortly thereafter he was married to Evelyn Jean Boyd. Their marriage produced 2 children before she passed away with Lou Gehrig’s disease. His children Ron A. Webb Jr., and Regina L. Webb French both reside in Bossier City, LA.
As a widower, Ron reconnected with his first love and High School sweetheart, Lauren Elise Touchstone at their 20 Year high school reunion and realized a new chapter of love in his life. Ron and Lauren were married on Jan. 25th 1991, and recently celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary.
Ron, who was affectionately known as “Pops” to many, lovingly adopted Lauren’s two children, Joel B. Webb and Rachel E. Webb Lomastro.
While residing in the Southern Hills area of Shreveport and working for General Motors, Ron was successfully elected to serve on the Republican State Central Committee, and was also elected for three terms on the Caddo Parrish Commission, and two terms on the Shreveport City Council. He was asked many times to run for Mayor to which he would always respectfully, but with a chuckle, reply “not no, but hell no!” He spent the better part of thirty years in public office.
Over his lifespan his work history included several full time jobs, sometimes two back to back, for Continental Trail Ways, Anti-Pest, General Motors, and Gannett Publications. Ron had many part time jobs or just “I think I could do that” jobs as well including, real estate agent, bail bondsman, and a private eye, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Whatever he put his mind to, he did, and did well, and he could outwork anyone no matter their age. He had a unique ability to remember names, faces, telephone numbers, and addresses and could somehow remember such kind and personable things to ask people from all arenas of his life with genuine sincerity.
After he retired from General Motors in 2009, he and his wife, Lauren, founded and currently own and operate Webb Professional Remodeling Services, and Webb Commercial Services. And being followers of Christ Jesus, both of these companies are faith based and have partnered with seven local charities for over eleven years. With the grace of God they have been able to give over a quarter of a million dollars to various charities including: Heart of Hope- Sanctuary for Women, Providence House, Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission, Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Center, and Shreveport Teen Challenge.
Webb Professional Remodeling has been the recipient of the prestigious Chancellor’s Coin from Shriners’ Children’s Hospital three times and in addition won the Annual Dreamers Award for the State of Louisiana. His company was also awarded the coveted Better Business Bureau Award for Best Customer Service for Bossier and Caddo Parrish. Ron has been locally recognized numerous times as a major supporter for the homeless and children with birth defects and cancer. His company began with the slogan “Building New Lives, One Roof at a Time”. Ron had a servant’s heart and deep love for his community, friends, and family. He was a rare man that would see a problem and take it upon himself to be part of the solution, no matter the cost.
He was proud of his Scot-Irish heritage and enjoyed frequenting music festivals and wearing his kilt. He loved watching his grandchildren perform in Irish dance and was proud of their individual scholastic and sports activities. Ron loved to travel. He had a great appreciation for fine art, culture, architecture, and dining. He was also a proud gun owner and could just hang with the guys and watch a good Saints football game.
Some of the things that Ron Webb will be remembered for, besides his big heart, and incredible generosity, was his love of reminiscing and storytelling. He had the unique capability to provide and protect no matter the circumstance. But most of all he remained as humble as the salt of the earth. People around him would be blessed and walk in pride by their various associations with him, while he unknowingly was content in the background quietly, faithfully, and lovingly taking care of everybody with never a single thought about just how special he was. It was his nature and gift to exalt and lift others up but the truth was he never knew he was our pillar of strength.
Ron was a champion of truth and even those that disagreed with him respected him and in some instances grew fond of him.
Throughout Ron’s life he survived multiple heart attacks, seven stents, and two strokes. His sudden, yet peaceful passing came as a shock to friends and family who had grown accustomed to him cheerfully bouncing back from these problem as he continued to “keep on truckin’”, as he would say without missing a beat. Saying he will be missed is an understatement to all those who knew him and benefited from his friendship and loyalty. He was truly a remarkable human being!
Ron is preceded in death by both his Parents and his first wife. He is survived by his loving wife Lauren, their little ten pound Maltipoo (Molly-Bee), his sisters, Linda and Carolyn, his sons, Ron Jr. and Joel, daughters, Tammy, Gina, and Rachel, his step-son, Stuart, and numerous beautiful, and wonderful grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 18th at 5:00-7:00 PM and the funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City, LA.
