Obituary of Sandra Kay Smith

Sandra “Sandy” Kay Berry-Smith, 71, of Mansfield, LA, passed away on May 30, 2022 after a year long battle with cancer. Sandy was born on January 27, 1951 to Frank & Florence Berry in Texarkana, Arkansas. After Sandy graduated from Arkansas High School in 1969, she went on to study education at Henderson State University and later graduated from Northwestern State University. After graduating with a degree in education, she began a teaching career in DeSoto Parish that would last 30 years. In 1972, Sandy met Carroll Richard “Rick” Smith in Texarkana. Sandy and Rick went on to have 2 sons, Reagan and Caleb. Following her retirement from teaching, Sandy spent her time doting on her three grandchildren and traveling. She especially loved Martha’s Vineyard. Sandy was preceded in death by her father Frank & mother Florence. She is survived by her husband Rick, her two children Reagan (wife Lisa) and Caleb (wife Brittany), her sister Beverly Berry-Gilley (husband Smith), nephew Taylor Jennison and her grandchildren Kamden, Kennedy, and Hudson. A memorial service will be held at Boone Funeral Home on June 3, 2022 from 5 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Shreveport or the Hope House in Shreveport.
