Obituary of Mager "Maggie" Leaner Durst

Mager “Maggie” Leaner Durst, 74, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2022 at her home. A Celebration of Life service for Maggie will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Boone Funeral Home. Interment will be 1:00 PM in Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. Maggie will be laid to rest with her husband John. Officiating will be Pastor Ricky Belgard. The family will receive guests between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, July 19, 2022 at Boone Funeral Home. Maggie was born in Plain Dealing, but traveled to many places with John while he proudly served their country. During one of John’s stations in Cuba she received her Lord and Savior was baptized in the Caribbean Sea. Using the love of her Lord, she became a evangelist, missionary, youth pastor, choir director, and pastor. Spreading the word of her Lord was her passion that she felt was her duty. She taught herself to play the guitar and piano. She used her talents to write and sing music, of which, she recorded two cassettes. When she had the time and space, she grew flowers of all kinds. Even with all of the military moves she had a flower garden, which made that house a home. Preceding her in death was the love of her life, John Durst, Jr.; mother, Paula Garza; sister, and Vera Rodriguez. Left to carry her legacy are daughters, Gina Garcia, Margaret Murray, Rebecca Taravella, Carmen Prim, John Durst, III, and Jo Ann Sims, Jeanette Durst, and Jade Durst; five grandsons and five granddaughters, and 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, two brothers, and two sisters; and many other family members and friends. Honoring Maggie as pallbearers will be Joe Garza, Billy Garza, Zach Douglas, Joel Sauseda, Ryan Taravella, and Vincent Taravella. Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Durst, IV. The family will like to express their appreciation and love to Ricky and Brenda Belgard for their loving support throughout the years. Maggie touch so many lives during her time with us. She was a warm, and caring person who would give up any and everything to help someone. She will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of meeting her. Her loving legacy will continue for many generations.
