Please share a memory of Nellie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shreveport-Nellie Ruth Eddy Isler was born in Frenchtown, New Jersey on April 21, 1916. Ruth entered into eternal rest on April 9, 2017, just twelve days shy of 101 years. Ruth had fond memories of her younger years in that small town on the Delaware River. She was an avid tennis player, swimmer, basketball player and graduated Valedictorian of her class at Frenchtown High School. She graduated from Rider College in Trenton, New Jersey (1936) with a BS Degree in Business Administration and worked in that local area until 1942 when she started her career in Civil Service at Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio. Service in Hawaii and Japan followed that assignment. She married Captain William H. Isler in Japan in 1948. During his career in the United States Air Force they lived in Oklahoma, Haiti, New York, Florida, Germany and finally on two assignments in Louisiana. The last military move was to Barksdale AFB in 1963. She has lived in the Bossier/Shreveport area since that time. In 1983 Ruth retired from the Procurement Division at Barksdale AFB with 25 years of service. Her interest in travel and meeting people of different cultures took her to many parts of the world. That travel "bug" has followed down the family line all the way to the great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Ida Jordan and George Eddy; a sister, Jane Eddy Talbot; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Vivian Eddy; and her former husband, William H. Isler. Survivors are a sister, Lucille Eddy Deckman, Jacksonville, Florida; daughter and her husband, Jane and Gary Jenkins, Conroe, Texas; son, William "Rusty" Isler, Fort Myers Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Dr. William Andrew Wojecki and his wife Agustina of Dubai, UAE; Sherry Isler Sparks and her husband, Chris, of Fort Myers, Florida, and Stacey Ann Isler also of Ft Myers, Florida; great-grandchildren, Oliver and Matilda Wojecki, and Scarlett Sparks. She is survived by a number of cherished nieces and nephews and many a friend. Ruth will be remembered most for her strength as well as her gentle, kind, and gracious spirit. She had many friends whom she loved dearly and that helped her live a long and healthy life. She shared many a happy hour playing bridge and treasured those times. Ruth was just a couple points shy of being a Gold Master player. She loved to knit, do crossword puzzles, watch the stock market, read and most of all spend time with family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Iqbal Singh and acknowledge the late Dr. William Hunt for their compassionate care over the years. At the time of her death, Ruth was the oldest member of First United Methodist Church, Shreveport, La. A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Chapel of the Oaks (600 East Flournoy Lucas Rd, Shreveport, La) followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Carl Rhodes of First United Methodist Church. At a later date the family will make a pilgrimage to Frenchtown, New Jersey to place her ashes in the Eddy family plot where she will join multiple generations of family. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to MD Anderson, Houston, TX; First United Methodist Church, Shreveport, LA; Grace Home, Shreveport, LA, or the charity of your choice.
