Obituary of John D. Walker

Shreveport, LA - Funeral services for John D. Walker will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home, Bossier City. The family will receive friends at Boone Funeral Home from 9:00 AM until service time on Tuesday. Interment will follow the service in the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville.
John was born August 29, 1927 at Millsap, TX to Stonewall Jackson Walker and Linnie Lee Henderson Walker. He entered Military service in October 1945, serving continuously until his retirement September 1972. His service included World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, he enjoyed playing golf with his many friends at Barksdale AFB. John also worked for the Internal Revenue Service and retired again in 1988.
Sadly, John passed away March 21, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John D. Walker, Jr., two sisters, four brothers, and a step-daughter.
John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jere; his little 4 legged friend Kandy; his son, Robert W. Walker, wife Mary, and their two children Naomi and Michael John of Orange, TX; sister, Lorraine Corbin and husband C.C. of Burkburnet, TX; three step-grandchildren; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Military Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers are Ted Hayes, Don Norwood and Paul Horton.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Tommy Brown, Angie, Elizabeth and the staff, Dr. Paul Wilson and Betty, Dr. Charles Hargon, Dr. Richard Kamm, Amedisys Hospice, Nicki, Miriam and Chanita, and Northwest LA Nephrology for their loving care and support of Mr. Walker.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
