I'm so sorry but I just learned of your loss. My first memories of your mother were in Umpire as she rolled out purple paper copies of school work on your screen porch. I was impressed. I had a nice visit with your mother last summer as we remembered together the old Dierks days. I would love to hear from any of you. Cell 318-617-6899

I am sorry this is so late, but, for some reason, it didn't make it through the technological world to me until yesterday. I am Sid Johnson, and I was a new young president of the Arkansas Education Association back in 1977-78. Betty was the local president in DeQueen. We had the Representative Assembly in Little Rock in the fall of 1977. She was one of the DeQueen delegates. It was an intense, important session, but all went really well in the end. Betty, whom I had just met, told me after the session that it was the best presiding officer job she had ever seen. She said it with such finality that I believed her completely. I never forgot it and used it in my future Association work. When things would get rough, many times I would think that Betty Sorensen thinks I can do it. And I did. Interesting how some things we say can affect people for the rest of their lives. Thank you, Betty. You didn't have to do that, but you did. And I think your family did an extremely well done, effective obituary for you. You certainly did your job well there. Sid Johnson, Fort Smith, AR.

I knew Mrs. Sorensen in 1978, in De Queen High School, where I had an experience as exchange student. I am from Argentina and I remember how kind she was and how much she helped me because she spoke an excelent spanish and we enjoyed to practice the languaje.
She once asked me to help her teaching and I did. It was in a private institution or in a government place. After a few classes, I remember she called me and sayed: "Miguel, tengo algo para tí". Then she payed me for those spanish lessons , I was so surprised!!! I thought it was too generouse from her to do that, because I was not a great teacher! And it was more what she helped me than what I helped her.
I know my English is not good, but anyway I want to tell you that here in Argentina there is a person that remember Mrs. Sorenson with gratitude, even after so many years. May she rest in peace.

So sorry for your loss. What a great tribute you wrote for your mom, Jill. I just remember her always being (or acting) very patient with us and some of our antics. Keeping you and the family in my prayers. Y

Betty was a very sweet and kind soul. To know and appreciate who and what she was, you only need to look at the people she's left behind, and those gone before.
I am a grateful son-in-law for how you spent the time you were given.
Thank you Betty,
Robert
