Obituary of Thomas Barnwell Mangum, Jr.

Thomas Barnwell Mangum, Jr., 75, died unexpectedly on November 20, 2020 in Bossier City, LA.  He was born on June 6, 1945 in Bethune, SC, son of Thomas B. Mangum and Martha Christmas Mangum.  Thomas graduated from 71st High School in Fayetteville, NC and then enlisted in the USAF in 1963.  He served his country honorably for 26 years, retiring at the rank of MSgt.  He met his wife Bernardita L. Mangum while stationed in the Philippines and celebrated 53 years of marriage together in April of this year.  He was a devoted husband and father, who provided the best life possible for this family.  Thomas was also kind, generous, and always found a way to make us laugh and enjoy life.  He will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved him.  Thomas found Christ later in life and become a member of the Catholic religion and also a member of the Knights of Columbus Fraternal Catholic Organizations.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Smith; and beloved brother-in-law Jack T. Greene.  He is survived by his wife Bernardita L. Mangum; sons, Thomas B. Mangum, III and wife Eva; Richard A. Mangum and wife Terri; a daughter Carmen D. Carter and husband Chester; three grandsons, DeVante X. Walls, Anthony Michael (Mikey) Mangum, and Jonathan O. Carter; two sisters, Martha Ann Greene, and Connie Caudle and husband Larry; two sisters-in-law, Carmencita L. Daquis and Maria Lisa Gabutan, along with a host of nephews and nieces in the Philippines as well as in the U.S.

The family expresses their appreciation to the Third Floor Staff of Willis Knighton Bossier for their care of Thomas.  They also wish to thank Dr. Shah and staff for their care and compassion.
