Bossier City, LA- A memorial service for Velva May Moore Couch, age 66, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Boone Funeral Home Chapel in Bossier City, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Mike Johnson, Chaplin for Christus Schumpert Medical Center. A gathering for family and friends will be Friday, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Velva May Moore Couch was born May 13, 1941, in Oak Ridge, MO, to Wilson and Hazel Moore. She went peacefully home to be with her Heavenly Father, February 23, 2008, surrounded by her family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. Velva was a homemaker for over 20 years, then after retiring from the Bossier Parish School Board, she also worked as an assistant bakery manager for 23 years. She was very giving, and accomplished very much throughout her lifetime. Velva was a devoted mother, who loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally! She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter whose family was the LIGHT OF HER LIFE! Velva was preceded in death by her father, Wilson Moore. She is survived by her loving daughters; Debra Pickett, husband Jerry, and son Jeremy of Haughton, LA, Lorie Fox, husband David, and daughters, Stephanie and Stacey Leigh, along with boyfriend, Brandon Carr of Bossier City, LA, Terri Dupont, husband Bruce, and son Patrick Garcia, of Shreveport, LA, Leslie Allen, husband Roger, and daughter Carolyn of Dallas, TX, and Michelle Harrison, husband Kent, and daughters, Taylor and Morgan of Frierson, LA, her mother; Hazel Moore of Oak Ridge, MO, siblings; Dorothy Couch, Viola Robinson, Kelly Moore, David Moore, Curtis Moore and their families in Missouri, along with numerous nieces, especially her special niece Robyn Moore, nephews, and cousins. She will also be missed by the following special friends; Alberta "Granny" Bauer, Rev. Mike Johnson, Roanne Milliot, Debi Dondero, Ruth Straka, Patsy Tokoi, Brenda Taravella, Marvin Davis, Jeff Segner, Lata and Srinu Darsi, Gerry Fox, and Tina Langford. Thank you to Springs of Grace Baptist Church for all the love, meals, visits and prayers. The family would also like to send a very special thank you to doctors Robert Massingill, Carter Boyd, Michael Moore and their staffs, Highland Hospital, along with the staff of Hospice Shreveport-Bossier for all their love and tender care. In mom's own words, "they take care of me like I'm their own mother," we cannot express our gratitude for that. A final thank you to Deryl Medlin for your support along the way.
