Obituary of Beryl C. Carter

Texarkana, TX Beryl Cornel Scothorn Carter, 91, formerly of Bossier City, was born in Bismark, North Dakota, May 20, 1922. Beryl left us to meet our Lord on Friday, September 6th.
Growing up she was active in the Girl Scouts and she lived in and graduated from Mandan High School. She was active in glee club in High School and HMS Pinafore production. After her family moved to Portland, OR. she attended and graduated from Oregon State University in 1944. After brief jobs, she joined the USO to be a Services Director at various US Air Force Base locations. Her favorite location was Nagoya, Japan. She met the love of her life and her husband, Capt William H. Carter while running the USO services at Roswell, New Mexico. They were married there in December 1952. They had three sons, William Scott Carter in November, 1953 at Lackland AFB, Texas; Randolph Walter Carter, April 1955; Robert Hugh Carter, January, 1957; both born in Sculthorpe, England. Beryl and Bill and the boys traveled in the USAF living in San Antonio, TX; Austin, TX; Sculthorpe, England; Goose Bay, Labrador Canada; Offutt AFB, Bellevue, NE; Barksdale AFB, Bossier City, LA. Beryl and Bill retired in Bossier City and were longtime residents of Bossier until the passing of Bill in December 13, 2010. She attended the First United Methodist Church of Bossier City. She loved attending Bible studies with the Sunday School Parker Class. She was a decorating member with the Barnwell Garden & Art Center for many years. Beryl grew a garden in the backyard of her and Bill's home on Tilman Dr. and occasionally enjoyed a swim in the backyard pool while Bill played golf at the Fox Run GC on Barksdale AFB. Their favorite travel destination was Las Vegas for a Military Services Golf Tournament and the Florida Panhandle with their family. She and Bill enjoyed the friends they met who also retired from the Air Force; Paul and Sue Horton, Hank and Jill Durivage, Lou and Lucille Autrey, played golf together. A special thank you to the wonderful caretakers at the Heritage Home Hospice, Whispering Pines Assisted Living, Reunion Plaza, and the Magnolia Assisted Living Home. She is survived by her brother and his wife; Robert and Carol Scothorn of Albuquerque, NM; Niece Hilary Scothorn, her husband Filipe Tohi and grand niece Dakota Alyce Tohi; Sons Scott Carter, Bob Carter and wife Leta, and Randy Carter and his wife Bonnie; grandsons, Nicholas Carter, Joseph Carter, Luke Carter, Carter Northcutt, Josh and his wife Julie Northcutt and three great grand daughters, Maidson, Mallory and Macie.
Services will be at Boone Funeral Home, Bossier City, LA, Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 12 Noon. She will be buried with her husband at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, LA. Officiating will be Rev. David Dietzel. Visitation will be Monday, September 9, from 5pm to 7pm at the funeral home.
