Obituary of Wilma Stangeland Sanders

Wilma Jean Stangeland Sanders, 95, passed away on July 14, 2020.  Memorial service will be at a later date.

Wilma was a loving mother who was an avid flower gardener.  She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and cooking for family.   Born & raised in Ponca City, Oklahoma, she was a pioneer woman who excelled in cooking and gardening. Her paternal grandparents were Norwegian emigrants. Wilma received her library of science degree from University of Oklahoma in 1954, and she enjoyed work in libraries when they lived in Kansas.  She lived her later years in north Louisiana and was a member of the Mt. Mariah Garden and Crafts club. 

Wilma was born on March 21, 1925 to Nels Leonard Stangeland and Renas Mae Wilson of Ponca City, Oklahoma.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph C. Sanders, and her infant daughter, Karen Sanders, and her siblings, Leonard “Buddy” Stangeland, Shirley Stangeland Riggs, and Ruth Stangeland Grayson, and daughter-in-law Linda Sanders.

She leaves to cherish her memory her brother Gordon Stangeland; daughter, Sherri Hogan and husband Kirk; sons, David Sanders and wife Beverly and, Christopher Sanders and wife Jean; grandchildren, Benjamin Sanders, Grace Hogan Houle, and Katherine Hogan; great-grandson, Chase Houle; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
