Obituary of Mike Flores

"Mike" Carlton Michael Flores July 3, 1963-November 26, 2016 Carlton Michael Flores "Mike", 53, of Greenwood, La passed away on November 26, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer, his loving wife by his side. Mike Flores was born July 3, 1963 in Shreveport, LA to Edward and Lula Mae Courtney Flores who preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 26 years, Sheryl McCoy Flores; children Chad Coffelt, Katie Bartleson, Curt Coffelt, Casi Layfield and Taylor Flores; 7 grandchildren; siblings Paul Flores, Eddie Flores, Jeff Flores, Vickie Partin and Shelby Rogers; along with a slew of nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; parents-in-law Cathy and Charles Taylor. Mike worked for many years as a skilled machinist and later as a heavy equipment operator/ hotshot driver. In his life, Mike had many passions and hobbies. The two that stand out the most are his love of nature and cars. From his cultivations of plentiful gardens with reflective scarecrows donned in underwear, to his beautiful and special roses; he was an artist in his craft with a sense of humor. He spent most of his vacations with his wife, kids and more kids, teaching and exploring the outdoors. He enjoyed primitive camping, hiking, fishing, identifying EVERYTHING, collecting artifacts and making memories. At home, Mike enjoyed watching Nascar and working on model cars and from time to time, the real thing. More than anything else Mike was the Daddy, Uncle and PePaw of a lifetime. He put so much thought and effort into loving children-his children, nieces, nephews, their friends, friends of friends and all of their children. He is loved by so many because he genuinely loved so many. Mike's life was cut short, but a meaningful life he did indeed lead. As he waits for us to join him in Heaven one day, we will continue to celebrate Mike, Daddy, sometimes Michael when he is in trouble and Carlton only if you want to be in trouble or if he owes you money. We love you Services will be at Boone Funeral home located at 3903 Meriwether Road in Shreveport, LA 71109. Visitation will be on Monday, November 28, 2016 from 5-7pm. The funeral will be held November 29, 2016 at 10 AM.
