Obituary of Mary Louise Melton

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Louise Melton passed away Sunday September 6, 2020 in Bossier City, Louisiana after saying her final goodbyes.

Mary was born in Stamps, Arkansas on July 30, 1933 to Elwin and Cleffie McClure. She lived a full life in southern Arkansas with many loving family members. She was one of two children born to Elwin and Cleffie. When she was growing up, Mary would help Cleffie with one of the many busineses her mother had and she spent alot time fishing, cooking and riding horses as well as having good "country" fun with her aunts, uncles and cousins. She would go on to work at a skating rink where she would meet her future husband, Ray Melton. Ray walked in one day and told Mary that "She was the prettiest woman he had ever seen and that he would marry her.". Mary would respond to Ray saying "He was the ugliest boy she had ever met and by no means would she go out with him.". Needless to say, they both ended up marrying each other a few years later. They would go on to build a house in Haughton, La in 1960, where she would start a small busines of her own sewing and decorating cakes for special occasions. Eventually, her cake decorating busines would grow into a full-time job where she would spend her years before retirement. During that period, she also would help raise three grandchildren Phillip, Justin and Laura whom she loved dearly. She would also be active in her church where she would be held in high esteem. Many fellow church goers and friends would say "She is the most Christian woman I have ever met.". Unfortunately, in her later years she would be unable to see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as much as she would have liked. Throughout her life, Mary nurtured many people and her memory will be held deeply in their hearts.

Preceding Mary in death is her husband George Ray Melton and parents, Elwin and Cleffie McClure.

Left to cherish her memory is daughter, Judy Candella; grandchildren, Phillip, Justin and wife Christa and Laura Candella; great-grandchildren Ava and Phoenix as well as many friends, family and church members.

The family ask that donations please be made to Shriners children's hospital in Mary Louise Melton's honor.
