Obituary of Gary Lee Kelly

Shreveport, LA - A memorial service honoring the life of Gary L. Kelly will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, April 5th at Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City. Gary went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 28, 2014. He was 63 years old. Gary was born on June 25, 1950 in Mena, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel (Hughes) and Dillard Kelly. Gary is survived his wife, Wynona Sue Kelly; son, Shaun Kelly and wife Candy; daughter, Wynona Kelly, all of Shreveport; brother, Ronald Kelly and wife Judith, sister, Deanna Ferguson and husband Robert, all of Mena, AR; four granddaughters, Brionna Kelly, Jazmine Burrows, Alexis Jones and Shelby Armstrong; four grandsons, Dakota Kelly, Dominic Ruiz, Stone Armstrong and Justyn Steward; niece, Tara; eight nephews, Kalin, Justin, Clint, Grant, Charles, Roy, Jerin and Kyle, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Gary was loved, admired and respected by all that knew him. Gary grew up in the backwoods of Arkansas in the community of Opal. He was raised on a farm, where his father had a dairy and then a broiler house. He loved riding horses, swimming in the creeks and hanging out with his buddies. He was raised in a Christian home and his father was a deacon of their church. On August 21, 1972, Gary eloped with Wynona Sue Hawkins and they were happily married for 41 years. When Gary was a young man, he was a logger, but made a lifelong career in the construction industry. Gary was the lead supervisor for Acme Steal Buildings, where he worked faithfully for the past 28 years. He was a very skilled and hard worker, a loyal husband and a wonderful father. He loved his grandchildren and his way of showing it was to pick on them. He was never the type of person to give up and always put up a front that he was fine, even if he wasn't. He had such a strong faith in his Lord and he leaned on it daily. When Hospice came out to set everything up for him to be on Hospice, the Chaplin asked him if he wanted a DNR and he sad yes, if he was gone do not bring him back, unless they heard him holler "Whoa" and the Chaplin didn't understand, so Gary explained, "If I holler Whoa then I am headed for the wrong gate so bring me back quick so I can fix this problem." He always joked around about things and had a dry funny wit. Gary will be greatly missed.
