Obituary of Kenneth Loyd Hardaway

Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kenneth Loyd Hardaway is predeceased by his mother, Thelma Young Hardaway Castle, his father, Charlie Hardaway, his sister and brother-in-law,  Madge and Clark Strayhan, brother, Donald Hardaway, and his nephews, Mack Strayhan and Charles Phillips.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Digilormo, his grandson Jason Digilormo (Maria), granddaughter, Kate Campbell (Ray), great grandchildren, Ethan Mann and Chloe Mann, nephews Mike Strayhan (Mary), Michael Hardaway (Heather), Hugh Scott Coyle, Charles Coyle, and Glynn Phillips; nieces Kitty Coyle, Sara Brackman (Glenn) and Terry Dick (Trenton), sister-in-law Wanda Hardaway, many more family members and friends.

At the end of WWII, Kenneth served his country in the United States Air Corp during the Occupation of Germany as a radio operator.  He retired from the United States Postal Service with 33 years, serving as a U.S Postmaster in Plain Dealing LA.

Kenneth enjoyed a lifelong love of sports, especially baseball, playing on the  semi-pro Plain Dealing baseball team in the early 1950's.    Baseball was his game, that is until, at the age of 32,  he discovered the game of golf.  He credits local dentist, Dr. George Acton, with recognizing his natural gift and igniting his passion for the game.  Ken excelled quickly and within just a couple of years, was eligible to play in the Championship Flight in golf tournaments all over the country.  He played regularly until at nearly 87 years of age, when he fell and broke his hip and shoulder, leaving him physically limited.  He passed away as he wished on a Sunday morning, at home, in his recliner, watching the Golf channel on television.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019,  at 3:00 at the Plain Dealing Cemetary.  All are welcome, but if you have a golf game scheduled, Ken would rather you just "tee up” and hit one for him!
