Obituary of Anne Denney

Please share a memory of Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Haughton, LA - Melmoth Anne Denney was born on January 3, 1936, in the Panama Canal Zone where her West Point graduate father had been assigned. Anne entered into her final rest on August 2, 2009. Anne was the beloved wife of Col. Carl L. Denney, Jr., and the daughter of Col. Ephriam Melmoth Hampton and Cora Anne Scott Hampton. Annie?s family and friends knew her as ?Poogie,? ?Annie,? and a member of the ?ABCD Gang? (Anne, Betty, Cindy, and Denise), her Fitness Lady family for over 10 years. Anne attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She met her beloved husband Carl L. Denney, Jr., at Maxwell Air Force Base. It was love at first sight! Six months later on June 3, 1956, they were married. They were blessed with three wonderful children, who became their greatest joy. Family was most important to them. Celebrating her memories are son Carl L. Denney, III, and his wife Susie of Kingwood, TX, daughter Sharon Denney of Haughton, LA, and son Scott Denney and his wife Kathleen of Keller, TX. Carl and Anne have enjoyed watching their eight grandchildren grow and mature into wonderful men and women. Grandchildren are Katelynn, CJ, Kelly, Kristi, Kimi, Rebecca, Anne and Michael. They lived their lives to the fullest as an adventuresome military family, stationed at numerous bases throughout the United States and Canada. In 1984 upon retirement from the USAF, they settled down in Haughton, La. Devoted as a full time mother and wife, Annie loved working out at Fitness Lady, square dancing and creating many beautiful crafts. She was an avid dog lover, leaving behind her poodle, Sassy; Yorkies, Harley and Kiki; and German Shepard, Rosie. On November 22, 2009, a group of her Fitness Lady friends, led by Kedgy Larson, will be walking in a 13.1 mile marathon in her honor. Annie?s Girls motto is ?Going the Distance? for her. The family wishes to personally thank Dr. Rickie Owers for his continual care, encouragement, and personal involvement through her entire journey. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 5, 1:00 p.m. at the Louisiana Funeral Home, Shreveport Chapel, 3903 Meriwether Road. Officiating will be Reverend Larry Larson.
