Obituary of Charles Davis Hielscher

            The life of Charles Davis “Chip” Hielscher will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in a memorial service in Frost Chapel of First Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana.  Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. immediately before the service in the First Baptist Church Parlor.  A graveside service will follow in Forest Park Cemetery East in Shreveport.  Chip passed quietly from this life at Schumpert-Highland Hospital Hospice Care in Shreveport on August 10, 2018 after a brief illness. 

            Chip Hielscher was born September 27, 1953 in Bryan, Texas.  He grew up in Shreveport and attended Caddo Parish public schools, graduating from C.E. Byrd High School in 1972.  Chip was on the Byrd track team and placed in the long-jump finals of the Louisiana High School State Track and Field Meet in 1972.  Chip later attended Louisiana State University in Shreveport.  Chip had been employed with Texas Eastern Transmission Company for many years in Shreveport and Houston and was an employee of LaPressco Printing in Shreveport at the time of his passing.  Chip was a lifelong active member of First Baptist Church of Shreveport.

            Chip was able to live his life the way many wish to – enjoying the simple things in life while they were happening.  Chip loved his family with great devotion, both living and passed.  He took delight in playing guitar, listening to music, reading, watching football, and enjoying numerous other activities in fellowship with his family, friends and co-workers.  Chip and his beloved son Travis continuously enjoyed recounting the experiences and fond memories of their lives and of their family.  Chip loved people and appreciated what each person had to offer in life.  Those who knew him best witnessed him going through his day with a smile or a grin and a sense of humor.

            Chip was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Davis “Polly” Hielscher, his sister, Esther Hielscher, and his father, Charles Newton “Newt” Hielscher.  He is survived by his loving son, Travis Charles Hielscher, also of Shreveport.  Chip will join his family in rest affirming the inscribed promise already present from Romans 8:1, while claiming for himself the promise in Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” 

            The family would like to thank the caring staff of Schumpert-Highland Hospice.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Chip’s name to First Baptist Church Shreveport or to The American Cancer Society.
