Obituary of Freddy Marvin Shumake

Mr. Freddy Marvin Shumake, age 83, of Converse, LA, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017. Fred was born Tuesday October 3, 1933 in Atlanta, Louisiana. He was proceeded in death by his parents Fred Lee Shumake and Virginia Gatton Shumake Merrill and sisters Eugenia Thornton, Derinda Shumake, and Theresa Baker. Fred will be remembered as an independent, determined man. He was skilled in carpentry and mechanics. He loved his chevy pick ups and playing pool. He had strong family values that continued throughout his life. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 50 years Margaret Elaine Shumake, who cared for him with love and compassion during his entire battle with Alzheimer's. His six children; daughter Pamela Rivera, son Johnny Marvin Shumake, son Shane Rachel Shumake ( wife Susan Vaughn Shumake), daughter Cecelia Rose Shumake ( husband Larry Morton), daughter Samantha Shumake Prestridge ( husband Aubrey Prestridge) and daughter Christina Shumake Goodwin ( husband Billy Goodwin). Eleven grandchildren - Ryan Shumake, Tanner Shumake, Hannah Shumake, Nina Shumake, Megan Burk ( husband Rocky Burk), Thomas Neal, Timothy Nessman, Steven Nessman ( wife Morgan Nessman), Marina Nessman, Jessica Williams and Luke Williams. Nine great grandchildren; Gage, Tate, Alyssa, Amiah, Elijah, Maci, Rocky, Rowdy, and Victoria. He also had numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. The memorial service will be held at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, LA, on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at a later date at Sardis Cemetery, in Atlanta, Louisiana.
