Thank you so much for your kind words, Elesha. My Maw was certainly something else. She kept us on our toes all the way up until the last couple of months until she became bedridden. She was a go-getter all of her life. Loved being outside sweating and having her hands in the dirt. She called working outside, her "Health Spa." She worked it until about 10 years ago. She was a smart and tough ol bird. She is going to be greatly missed and forever remembered and loved. Thank you again for thinking about her and us.

I'm so thankful that you loved my Grandparent's so much. I loved your story. Thank you for telling it. Thank you for signing the online book. It's so nice meeting you. Sicerely, Kelli

Thank you so much, Lois Brown. My Maw was such an AMAZING person and Grandmaw. Her stories, if she could have gotten them all out on paper, would have been on the Best Seller's list. She did write part of her life. Then she broke her hip and got away from it. She was an awesome story teller. Both of her daughter's, Margaret & Marcy got that writing bug from her. My daughter, her Great-Grandaughter, Brianna Rae Mims got the writing bug and I, her Granddaughter, did as well. Such a special blessing to pass down to 3 different generations.
Thank you for your time in leaving such a special message.

What a beautiful written obituary. I wish I would have know Mrs. Haynes when I was older. Sounds like she was the life of the party. So many wonderful memories you have of her. Love to you Marcy and the rest of your family.

Ms. Sybil and Mr. Elvie were two of the most special people in the world to me. They shared something with me that very few people did, they shared their home and family with me when my mom couldn't. You see, my mom had to work nights to support us and wouldn't leave me alone at night so I got to stay with the Haynes. Marcy shared her room with me. Not everyone would be willing to do that, especially a younger brat like me. They always had time for me and my many, many questions and always room for one more at the table. Not too long after that, they moved to Minden and I never got to see them again. Then one day, years later, I was work for State farm and this tall gentleman can through the door and said "Good Morning" then he looked at me kinda funny and said he would be right back and left. When he returned, he had donuts, he knew who I was but I didn't recognize him at first. We shared coffee and donuts together that morning and had a great time. Not long after that he passed away. Now years much later, I came to live right across the road from Ms. Sybil. By then she was ill and didn't remember me, but she was still a sweetheart. Now she is at peace and with the love of her life. These two kind and generous people will always hold a very special place in my heart and will be greatly missed.

I had 49 years with this amazing woman. She taught me to crawfish in the little creek that sometimes turned into a raging river on their property, with a piece of string, a piece of salt bacon and a bobby pin. In the same creek I would swim and wash the large pick of the day from the huge garden she and my Grandpaw, "El", short for his name, Elvie would grow every year. Later after 1984 when he passed away, Maw would raise the same size garden all by herself. I remember my Maw always telling me to watch for snakes. I was SO scared of snakes. Once when I was about 10 I saw my first snake. A little head poked up over the potato plants. I yelled out, "There's a snake!!!" As soon as I did, I turned and started running. Well that snake started running, too. Yeah, right after me. If you know the Mims', you know that we cannot run. If you know me and my Daddy, we both played ball. He played baseball and I played softball, slow and fast pitch. If I was going to make it to home plate, I had to hit a home-run or hit the ball way out in right field (I'm a lefty) to get around to at least 2nd or 3rd to have a chance, hahahaha. Anyway, that snake was a Blue Chaser. My "El" was almost peeing himself laughing so hard at me running from that darn snake. Maw was trying to catch us with the Hoe. Not to kill it, because it was a good snake. In my mind I had no idea it was a good snake. NO SNAKE WAS A GOOD SNAKE AT THAT MOMENT!!!! That dang snake was chasing me and all I knew was I was DEAD!!! I was extremely mad at my "El." He was doing nothing but laughing at my soon to be demise!!! Finally my Maw told me to stop running and turn around and jump at the snake. I was thinking, Oh my Gosh, she is nuts! I was so tired of running, it was my last resort. I stopped and yelled, "Leave me alone!!!!" And sure enough, that snake turned and high tailed it back to the garden. El still over there about to pee himself. Maw laughing just about as hard now. When the two of them laughed together, it wasn't pretty. I just collapsed out of exhaustion. Needless to say I am fearful as HELL of snakes still today. Never have encountered another Blue Chaser, Thank God!!!

This is my last goodbye to a woman I can only call Wonder Woman. Her arguments with my dad about the Bible were legend. Daddy believed women should be quiet in the church unless called upon. Mama thought they should be deacons. In one of the versions of the Bible she found where there was a deaconess. Well Daddy, that was not your first argument to lose with this very opinionated Wonder Woman. She loved education. She was staunched in her education because back in those days, it was more important for the male. Mama did not agree. Very much a Christian, I know where my people that have gone on ahead of me are residing.
