Obituary of Rosie Nell LaBorde Day

Rosie Nell LaBorde Day, 75, Shreveport, Louisiana passed away suddenly Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Willis Knighton Pierremont Hospital in Shreveport due to complication from surgery. Rosie was born on September 16, 1940 to the late Jack and Marie LaBorde of Crowville, Louisiana. Rosie was one of five children. Rosie graduated from CHS, class of 1959. While in school she was a member of many organizations throughout the years. Pep-Squad, 4-H, Band, and the manager of the girls' basketball team. After leaving high school, Rosie traveled to Jackson, MS where she attended Business College earning an Associate degree. Rosie then became a secretary and worked for Baptist Children Village in Jackson, MS. Rosie then became a military wife and traveled to Columbus AFB in MS, Lower AFB in CO, Kadena AFB in Okinawa, Offutt AFB in Omaha, NB, Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, LA, Duluth AFB in MN, Kessler AFB in MS and finally coming to Shreveport, LA where she made her home and taught Sunday school at Bellaire Baptist Church. Rosie truly loved life to the fullest through simple pleasures, talking with family and friends, crocheting many different things, doing word search books, reading stories and playing the piano with her great grandson and reading romance novels. Many have said Rosie was a loving, intelligent kind lady. She was always helping people she loved. Spending time with her siblings when they needed it. Rosie was a spitfire little lady. She didn't have a problem telling people how it was. Over the years she has made many friends. Some life-long friends include Allen and Mary Garbis of Loveland, CO, Francie and Bonnie Phillips of Bossier City, LA, Sissie Courtney, of Longview, TX, Audrie Wolfe of Shreveport, LA, and Wayne Durham of Shreveport, LA. Rosie made charitable contributions each year to St. Jude and LEEP. She was a cancer survivor and an organ donor. Rosie leaves behind 3 sons, Derrick Day of New Orleans, La, Keith and wife Jody of New Iberia, La, and Shawn and wife Tonya Day of Keithville, LA and the father of her sons, Shelby Day of New Iberia, LA. 4 siblings, Elizabeth and Chuck Day, Donnie and wife Linda LaBorde, Charlie and wife Sharon LaBorde and Janice Nielsen. 4 grandchildren, Amanda Martin, Alicia Day, Nicholas and Brandon Day. 2 great-grandchildren Austin and McKenzie Martin. Rosie is welcomed into Heaven by her parents Jack and Marie LaBorde, daughter-in-law Julia Day and grandson Chase Day. A memorial service for Rosie will be held Saturday February 27, 2016 at Fish Bayou Baptist Church, 604 HWY 610, Winnsboro, LA. Condolence time is from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Lunch will be served for everyone between 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. The memorial service will begin at 1:00 pm. Following the service everyone is invited to attend the graveside to lay Rosie to rest at Harris Cemetery on French Turn Rd. The family would like to thank Cedar Hill Retirement Center Staff and Residents and the nursing staff at Willis Knighton Piermont.
